Last week, we visited Sambourne House, a hidden gem in Kensington that offers a rare glimpse into Victorian life, perfectly frozen in time. Once home to illustrator Edward Linley Sambourne, the house remains almost exactly as he left it—rich in intricate wallpapers, opulent furnishings, and the unmistakable charm of the Aesthetic Movement.
Walking through its rooms felt like stepping into another era. Unlike grand historic homes that have been heavily restored, Sambourne House is an authentic, lived-in space, giving a true sense of how the artistic elite of the late 19th century lived. Every detail, from the hand-painted ceilings to the ornate furniture, reflects a time when craftsmanship and beauty were central to everyday life.
If you have an eye for historic interiors or simply love discovering London’s hidden history, this place is well worth a visit.
