Lance's Story - Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Last year, my godson, Lance, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy—a life-changing condition I had never heard of before. To raise awareness and funds, I’m joining his family and friends in the Pedal Paddle Peak challenge: cycling 34km, canoeing 3km, and climbing Helvellyn Mountain! We’re close to our £3,600 goal, and every bit of support makes a difference.

Last year, my godson, Lance, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Before then, I had never heard of this condition, so when Lance's dad told me about it, I was shocked to learn how devastating and severe it is.

Duchenne is a progressive, life-limiting disease that affects muscle strength, mobility, and overall quality of life. Understandably, it has been an incredibly difficult journey for Lance’s parents as they come to terms with his diagnosis and care.

To raise awareness and funds for Duchenne research, I, along with Lance’s parents, family, and friends, will be taking part in Muscular Dystrophy UK’s Pedal Paddle Peak challenge in the Lake District this July.

The challenge involves cycling 34km, canoeing 3km, and then climbing Helvellyn Mountain, the second-highest peak in England!

We are doing this not just for Lance, but for the 110,000 children and adults in the UK living with a muscle-wasting condition.

So far, we’ve almost reached our fundraising target of £3,600, but we would be incredibly grateful for any additional support. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps fund vital research and support for families affected by Duchenne.

If you’d like to contribute, please visit Lance's fundraising page — your support means the world to us and to Lance’s family.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you can, please share to help spread the word!
